A fire extinguisher recharge is necessary any time the device has been used, regardless of how much of its contents were discharged. Whether its foam, water, dry or wet chemical; they should all be inspected and recharged after each use. Low pressure or diminished contents can lead to an otherwise avoidable disaster.
A fire extinguisher recharge is fairly inexpensive. In most cases the expense is less than the purchasing a new fire extinguisher and can be done quickly. However, if your fire extinguisher is more than 12 years old, hydrostatic testing is often required which can add an additional expense.

How To Inspect:
1. Insure access to the extinguisher is not blocked and that the cabinet door, if any, opens easily.
2. The pressure should be within the recommended level on extinguishers equipped with a gauge (such as shown above). The needle should be in the green zone. If the needle is not in green zone, the extinguisher requires professional maintenance and this should be noted on the inspection report
